Goodwill celebrates expansion in Sherwood Park

For Immediate Release – October 17, 2014 – Goodwill Industries of Alberta is proud to invite Strathcona County and Edmonton area residents to tomorrow’s grand opening of their new retail store, donation center and career development centre.

MLA Cathy Olesen and Strathcona County Mayor Roxanne Carr will be in attendance at, 130 Athabascan Avenue at Cornerpoint Centre, and will speaking at the ribbon cutting starting 8:40 am.  A complimentary barbeque for community residents will begin at 11:30 am.

“Since July 2004, we have had a donation centre located in Sherwood Park and now we’re excited to expand our operation to a full retail store, as we partner with our generous donors to support area residents with disabilities to receive employment training and job placement,” said Dale Monaghan, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Alberta.

By opening a retail store in Sherwood Park, donations will be sold in the community and sales proceeds will go towards employment programs for Strathcona residents with disabilities.

“Through our Power of Work program, Goodwill supports people with disabilities to ensure they are equipped and ready to succeed with employment,” said Monaghan. “Our mission and purpose is for Sherwood Park and Strathcona County residents with disabilities to gain independence and have an opportunity for career development. “

Goodwill Industries of Alberta is a nonprofit enterprise that provides training and meaningful employment opportunities for Albertans with disabilities. Your donations of gently used household goods are sold in to support employment programs for fellow Albertans with disabilities so every time you donate to Goodwill you are helping to make a difference in someone’s life.
