Join us Wednesday, May 9, 2012 when we celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities in Edmonton. Minister of Seniors George VanderBurg will be in attendance at the reception to help us congratulate these amazing people. MLA Matt Jeneroux, Edmonton- SouthWest, and Goodwill Board Member, will be speaking at the event.
May 6 – 12 celebrates Goodwill Week, an international week of celebration for Goodwill’s in Canada and the US. This week showcases Goodwill’s programs for employment of individuals with disabilities and our environmental mission where we recycle gentle used household items and turn them into training and jobs. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has officially recognized May 6 -12 as Goodwill Week in Canada, recognizing the “countless individuals facing serious challenges in finding employment that have benefited from the education, training and career services offered by Goodwill Industries.”
Wednesday evening we will celebrate our 16th Annual Awards night. This event honors the achievements of the people with disabilities in our programs, the employers and volunteer organizations that support our programs and the Goodwill employees that make it all happen.
This year we will be honoring 13 outstanding individuals and companies that support Goodwill.
Companies like Davey Textile Solutions who employ 2 individuals with disabilities in their organization and proudly support Goodwill. Volunteer organizations, like the Edmonton Reuse Centre which provides volunteer opportunities for individuals to assist them in their recycling operations.
Goodwill Industries of Alberta is a not for profit agency whose mission is to change the lives of people with disabilities and other barriers to employment by turning household donations and other resources into training and jobs. We help these people gain employment, teach them the skills they need to successfully keep that employment, and be members of the community.
Awards Night is held on May 9 at 6:30 pm at MacEwan University Heart Theatre, Robbins Health Learning Centre, 1st Floor, 10910-104 Ave. A reception is held from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, and the event runs from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm. This year our special MC is Nicola Crobsie from Global TV.
