Meet Janis – an interview with a passionate Goodwill Shopper and Fashion Blogger
Blogger, Stylist and Fashion Communications, and Goodwill Shopper
Hometown: I grew up in rural Alberta, not too far from Edmonton in a small town called Vermilion. Not many “fashiony” things happened there!
How would you describe your style? Eclectic, vintage, but always feminine.
Best buy at Goodwill? One of my favourite Goodwill finds ever is a tweed, plaid trench coat. It is certainly circa the 60’s, but in mint condition. A rare, but cherished find I will always keep.
Thoughts on thrifting: There is nothing like the thrill of the hunt when thrift shopping. You never know what you’re going to find, and that’s what makes those rare finds so satisfying.
On a more serious note, I think shopping for second-hand does a valuable service in terms of our environment. Reduce, reuse and recycle – right? Clothing that is still wearable has no place in a landfill. I like the idea of letting clothes live on and someone else enjoying it.
What colour do you always gravitate to? I’m sheepishly admitting my favourite colour is black. I know, so boring. But it’s easy to accessorize, always looks chic and is never out of style.
