The Opportunity:

The Manager, Power of Work is responsible for the management, supervision and coordination of POW employees working within their department. We are looking for an experienced Human Services professional to play a key role in providing prudent & strategic leadership of Goodwill’s mission services related to community employment programs. The ideal candidate for this leadership position is a forward-thinking and problem solving individual who will work to continuously improve services related to POW employment programs and proactively identify the needs of POW to support long term sustainability and growth.

 The POW Manager will have the following professional accountabilities:

  • Providing leadership to the Power of Work Coordinator and Coaches (up to 30 employees)
  • Ensuring workplace practices that support retention and engagement of Power of Work employees and people supported.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with funders and community partners.
  • Operating department within defined budget limits, monitors monthly expenditures, addressing variances, management of external funding and grants and participating in budget planning.
  • Setting annual and strategic goals for community employment programs and ensure goals are achieved
  • Prudent management and deployment of external funding and grants

 Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Director, Power of Work, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and monitoring program employees in daily communication and documentation compliance.
  • Conducting employee job performance evaluations.
  • Developing, coordinating and monitoring staff schedules.
  • Setting clear expectation for coaches and coordinators; monitors performance against these goals.
  • Completing and submitting incident report documentation to HR.
  • Coordinates and consults with staff in the admission and supports required for new individuals accessing the program.
  • Coordinating and monitoring job development and placement programs; contacting prospective employers, coordinating placement of individuals and evaluating the outcome of placements.
  • Meeting requirements of reporting as required by provincial government for funding contracts.
  • Providing support and supervision to volunteers and practicum students as required.
  • Working with HR in the administration of employee discipline.
  • Acting as an advocate and positive role model in all stakeholder interactions, demonstrating appropriate work behaviour and communicating effectively in a professional manner.
  • Developing community relations, networking and connections in the community.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll reporting in ADP for all staff reporting to the manager.
  • Financially accountable to meet revenue targets and ensuring expenses are within budgeted amounts.
  • Working an irregular schedule as necessary.
  • Traveling to various employment sites in the community

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant social science.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or related work experience
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Must have own vehicle, a valid class 5 driver’s license, vehicle insurance, appropriate registration and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Strong interest and ability to work with individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to influence, empower and motivate others and hold team members accountable for the completion of responsibilities
  • Strong mastery of the English language. Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communication and documentation.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment but may be required to visit various work placements in the community
  • Required to drive in all weather conditions with frequent visits to various on-site locations.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.
  • Dress code: Business casual
