Goodwill Industries of Alberta is proud to celebrate a growing, mission-aligned partnership with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, a collaboration that is increasing landfill diversion, expanding repair and reuse, and creating meaningful social and environmental impact across Alberta.

More Furniture Reuse, Less Waste to Landfill

Through this partnership, more donated furniture is being rescued, repaired, and re-circulated instead of ending up in the landfill. By keeping quality, reusable items in circulation, Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity are working together to reduce waste while ensuring that affordable furniture remains accessible to Albertans.

This increased flow of reusable goods supports a more circular economy, where items are kept in use longer and environmental impact is reduced.

Giving Textiles a Second Life with Goodwill Cleaning Cloths

The partnership also creates new opportunities for Goodwill Cleaning Cloths, providing torn or damaged textiles with a meaningful second life. By diverting unusable textiles from landfill and transforming them into affordable, sustainably made cleaning cloths, Goodwill is expanding access to practical reuse solutions while reducing textile waste in Alberta.

Strengthening Collaboration Through Shared Learning

Recently, team members from both organizations participated in reciprocal site visits to strengthen collaboration and deepen understanding.

  • Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta staff toured Goodwill’s Calgary Impact Centre, experiencing firsthand the work happening on the sorting floor, within Goodwill @ Work, and across the facility.
  • Goodwill team members visited Habitat for Humanity’s Calgary operations to learn more about their processes, identify shared opportunities, and spark ideas for future collaboration.

These exchanges reinforce the value of knowledge-sharing between nonprofit organizations working toward common goals.

A Shared Commitment to Community and Sustainability

This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when mission-driven organizations work together. By prioritizing reuse, repair, environmental stewardship, and community impact, Goodwill Industries of Alberta and Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta are helping build stronger, more sustainable communities.

Strong partnerships like this are essential to driving long-term social and environmental change in Alberta.
