Get Sustainable with Goodwill for Earth Day!

We're not fans of only having one Earth Day, so each year Goodwill does its best to highlight our wonderful planet and our efforts to help sustain it, over an entire week.

This year's celebration will mark the first-ever Goodwill Sustainability Fair held at our Amazing Edmonton Impact Centre on Saturday, April 23 from 11 AM until 3 PM! Join us along with many other local organizations who value the mission of green, as much as we do.

Clean Up for Good Scavenger Hunt

This Earth Week, April 18-24, you can learn about more ways to Clean Up for Good just by giving gently used items a new home and saving them from the landfill. Not only are you sustaining the environment, but you’re creating sustainable employment for Albertans with disabilities in your community. While you shop, take a crack at our Clean Up for Good Scavenger hunt and submit your finds online for a chance to win 1 of 5, $50 Goodwill gift cards!

Rules: Follow the clues to find items in your local Goodwill that create sustainable ways of living and shopping. Each time you find an item that you think matches your clue, snap a picture. You can then submit your contest entry form and pictures here for a chance to win! Our clues are general and can relate to more than 1 item, so have fun, get creative and think sustainably. The contest will open from April 18 at 10A until April 24 @ 11:59 PM MST

Clean Up for Good

Every year, Goodwill locations across the province step out into their neighbourhoods on Earth Day to pick up litter, and we invite you to do the same in your community! Taking time to make an impact around you not only helps the environment but can also inspire those around you to think about how they dispose of their garbage in a more mindful way. Now that the snow has started to melt, hidden trash that has been sitting for months is starting to be rediscovered and no one likes to look at that. Alberta is such a beautiful province that we should all be proud to live in and support.

If you head out with your friends and family, take some pictures and share them with us on your social channels by using #CleanUpforGood and we'll repost them.

Here are a few shots from 2021's Goodwill Clean Up!

Bye-Bye Dumpster

Part of our Sustainability Action Plan is to reduce our overall waste output and to continuously improve our recycling. We have been working towards removing all of our dumpsters from each Goodwill location in Alberta and replacing them with smaller black bins. These bins will be used to collect and transport garbage from each store to our Amazing Impact Centres for sorting. This way, our team can thoroughly sort each bin for any missed recycling, ensuring that only true waste is going to the landfill. As of March, we have now removed them from all of our locations across the province!

Here's what it looks like:
